"Did I do that?" - Steve Urkle

I know this isn’t the blog I promised you, reader (8 +?!), but this is on my mind tonight…
Do you ever relate to a television or movie actor? I’m not talking Freddie or Jason or anything like that… geesh what do you take me for?? However it is a man I can relate to these days… Do you remember Carl from Family Matters? It seems as though I have a few Urkles in my life and lately I feel like a Carl.  I want to like them and start out with the best of intentions, but the Urkles- they just wears ya down.  They are nice and I am sure they mean well, but they just sometimes annoy me!
When I was in middle school and high school, I had a boy that liked me, and would kinda follow me around… my mom and I called him Urkle.  I haven’t thought about him until I started writing tonight (and if I could remember his real name - would look him up on facebook)… my mom always told me that Urkle from school would someday become the next Bill Gates… but I don’t think so.

Do you ever think about the movie Gremlins , when they added water and they multiplied -  do you think this is plausible? Do you think Urkles multiply? Oh dear God maybe they procreate. EW "Did I do that?!"
Does it make me geeky that I just referenced Urkle and the Gremlins in my post... Am I too an Urkle?...well at least I am nice, even if I annoy you.

A picture is worth 1000 words

Last weekend we had our first official family photos taken.  We have candid family photos from the day Makenzie was born and through out the last 11 months - but nothing staged with coordinating outfits.  Yes, we had coordinating outfits.  The hard part was finding Makenzie's dress for the photos... oh darn I had to go baby clothes shopping! I didn't even have to twist Matt's arm to wear what I wanted him to! I think that's partially because he didn't have to make any of the decisions.  He knows: what momma wants, momma gets!

We met the photographer (Scott Brainard) at a park about 30 minutes north of where we live, in hopes of getting photos with Aspen trees (my favorite!).  We were able to find some baby Aspens, and although they didn't have the tall paper white trunks I was hoping for, their color was still of splendor!

I need your help, reader (7!) to help pick our family Christmas card... please comment with your favorite photo!

Tomorrow I will share some of the outtakes!

Autumn, the year's last lovely smile - William Cullen Bryant

I absolutely love this time of year! The crisp mornings, the crunch of leaves under foot, sweaters, hot cocoa, Halloween, change of colors, and snuggles with my favorite people!

Last weekend the Air Force base, that my husband works at, had a family day.  The kiddos dressed up in their costumes and went trick or treating to all the different shops, they had a pumpkin patch, professional photos, fire trucks, and scary haunted house (in my husband's shop).  It was my 4th year going, but this year was a zillion times better! This year I had my own little one to tote around! Our little skunk was such a trooper! I think she enjoys this time of year as much as her mommy and daddy!!  Once we got home from our very busy afternoon at the base Kenzie was soooo tuckered out and snuggled in for a long fall nap!

I love autumn and my little stinker!

The recipe of love calls for burnt bacon

I hate to cook. I can screw up mac and cheese. But, this morning I decided to make my little family breakfast.  Matt was still in bed when I started my conquest but the delicious smell of burning bacon brought him out of his slumber - he hollored at me that I was doing it wrong.  Thanks, Einstein.

I made hash-browns, frozen of course.  Turkey bacon - burnt (cajun style). And over easy eggs. It took a while... much longer then it takes to make Top Ramen, but I wore my apron, so that made it at least appear like I knew what I was doing.  Never mind it was the first time I wore that apron... I got it for Christmas 2008 from my bestie.  It so stinkin' cute I didn't want to get it dirty before now.

Makenzie and Sunny both got in on the action of sharing - Makenzie was feeding Sunny cheerios while I was slaving over the stove.  I figured if I made an in-edible meal, at least the baby wasn't going hungry.  All in all the meal actually turned out pretty ok... if you added a little lot of catchup.

hi ho hi ho its off to work I go

I am trying to blog weekly, but wanted to give you a heads up… since I have soooooo many readers (5!), that I will be gone next week… I have an out of town conference - whoa makes me sound awfully important doesn’t it? Do you picture me in a business suit? Brief case in hand? (hee hee that’s a funny image!) It’s a conference for the support staff of firefighters and chief officers. Yup that’s me… support… with a wire. They’re better at lifting … things… up! Did you get it? Did you get my bra reference? I’m funny.
So anyhow back to the conference thing… so twice a year this organization I am part of gets together and goes to classes… this year we are hearing from the marketing guy of Les Schwab (for those of you that don’t live on the west coast – it’s a tire retailer. – they come running!) about customer service, a session on business writing, one on conflict in the work place (cough - cough… sorry something was stuck in my throat!), how to make job descriptions, etc… it really is a fun little conference, and we get to network with other support people, which is the best part of it all (even seeing some of the ladies knit while a speaker is talking!)
I am really looking forward to it… now if you will excuse me; I have a wire poking into my side.

Anyone can get old. All you have to do is live long enough (Groucho Marx)

This post is about aging. Mine. My daughters.
Tuesday I turn... ummm... 32 ( I just did the math - because quite frankly I wasn't sure if I was turning 32 or 33 - we like to call this "mommy brain").  My life sure didn't happen exactly like I had planned, and if you know me,  you know I like a plan.  When I was about 12 and again at 17 I wrote out my life's goals.  Funny how a 12 year old thinks having 7 children by the time you are ... 32... makes perfect sense! At 17 having a little more knowledge in life, thought 4 children at .... 32....made perfect sense! Well here I am... 32... and I have 1 child.  Life sure didn't turn out like I planned, but I wouldn't have it any other way!  I'm ok with the whole getting older thing - I am no longer that naive 12 or 17 year old.  I've loved. I've lost. I've learned.

I'm not the only one getting older. Makenzie turns TEN MONTHS! (ten months, people!) tomorrow. Hard to believe how quickly the months have come and gone.  She is growing. She is learning. Yesterday she started walking. yes I just said walking! It is so much fun to see our teeny tiny becoming a little girl ... but I still want her to be a baby! Sometimes at night when she wakes up I just hold her.  I take a mental picture of how little she is.  because before I know it she will be 12 or 17.
